Fotografiska, the popular museum for photography in Stockholm opened the doors in 2010 and is located in the former toll house. The museum is located along the water, at Södermalm, near Slussen. Due to the huge construction works there it is not so easy to get to the museum as we speak but the redirects (also for pedestrians) are all very clear.
Fotografiska is one of the largest museums for modern photography in the world. Each year there are various exhibitions of both known and less famous local photographers. Every year there are more than 20 exhibitions. So you always have a good reason to go back again. They regularly organize photography workshops in the museum too.
There is a very celebrated restaurant on the roof of Fotografiska. If you want to visit the restaurant, you can only do this if you buy a ticket for the museum. The large windows offer magnificent views over the water and across the water you can see Djurgården. In 2016, the restaurant, by Paul Svensson, was voted the second best museum restaurant worldwide.
Tip: At Fjällgatan you can enjoy the same view.
Photography lovers should reserve some time and budget to look around at the museum shop. There have countless books about photography and a lot of gadgets that many can not resist to. If you are or have an amateur photographer in your circle of friends, you will surely find an appropriate gift here.
During the summer months you can also sit outside on the terrace. The sculpture you see is ‘Torso’. This bronze image is taken by the Swedish artist Dan Wolgers and is 2.75 meters high.
